Every traveller needs a light – Klarus Mi1C and Mi7 Torch Review

When it comes to choosing which travel accessories to pack, you may think a torch may not really be a necessity. (I made that mistake on my first trip to India). You’d be surprised at how often you’ll find a torch invaluable in unexpected situations and at certain locations.

Some dark travel scenarios where a torch has been a valuable tool or even a life saver:

1) Many of the Eastern countries that we have travelled to experience blackouts.  If you walking in a dark and remote area or need to navigate around your room during a blackout to find the mosquito spray or money in your backpack then a torch can become most helpful. Once we had to wake up 3am to catch a 4am train but there was a blackout from the night before. If it wasn’t for our Klarus torches, packing would have been almost impossible and I’m sure we would have ended missing stuff and leaving something behind.

2) If you camping the bathroom may be some distance from your tent or a torch may even be your only source of light if you in the wilderness. Not only will the light detour wild animals and bugs but it will help light up the path to help you find your way.

3) Sunset and Sunrise hiking. We hiked up Pidurangala rock in Sri Lanka to catch an early morning sunrise and the path was so dark and it was almost impossible to see where you walking or climbing. If you ever heard about this hike or attempted it yourself then you will know how difficult and dangerous it could be to navigate the path in the dark.

4) A forth and little more serious scenario,  if you stuck in a dangerous situation a torch can signal and alert people that you are in trouble! Read Alina’s story about how her torch saved her and 7 other divers lives or Tim’s story about how his tiny pocket torch saved his life after he broke his leg.

Travellers Tip – Always put your torch in the same place so you know where to look when you caught in the dark or an unexpected situation.

A torch is really great when you think there’s a rat in your room and you want to see it, but you can’t get to a lamp because mosquito netting is covering your bed.
