Looking for the best place to stay in Kathmandu?

Searching for places to stay in Kathmandu that will make your trip even more memorable?

Most tourists visit Kathmandu a few days before or after their trek to Everest Base Camp or other nearby trekking adventures through the Himalayas.

If you wondering where to stay in Kathmandu then we recommend staying in or around Thamel, which is the main tourist area in Kathmandu. Thamel has several restaurants and interesting stops for tourist and locals alike. You will find everything you need here, even if you looking for souvenirs or a new backpack for your circuit trek.

It is worth spending a few extra days to explore the Boudhanath stupa, Durbar Square, Garden of dreams, interesting restaurants, unique hippy shops or just get lost in the cities culture. There are so many surprising things about Nepal so take some time and get out of Thamel to explore the outskirts of the city too.

Kathmandu Accommodation – Booking in advance or on arrival?

You should be able to find accommodation on arrival for most parts of the year however, it’s not always the best idea. We have had to settle for some terrible places when walking into hotels to book a night or 2, even boutique hotels are not what they seem from the outside.

We used Booking.com and AirBNB to find accomodation for the rest of our stay in Kathmandu. Both sites offer a wide variety of guest houses, backpackers, homestays, hotels, hostels and other affordable places.

By reading the reviews of other peoples experiences, considering all the available amenities and comparing the overall value for money, we found the best place to stay in Kathmandu based on our needs.
